Managing weight and fat loss with probiotics
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Taking one probiotic pill a day that dispurses healthy bacteria into your body can’t possibly help you lose weight and body fat.
Fun fact, your digestive tract actually has a lot to do with how your body processes foods and manages what to store in your body. Probiotics help break down what you’re digesting and turn it into fecal matter instead of storing what your body doesn’t need and turning it into fat.
For someone like me that doesn’t have any digestive or bowel issues, I use 25 Billion CFU. This is the lowest amount on the shelf at GNC and usually the recommended amount to start off with. Adding probiotics to your daily supplements is a great idea for anyone whether you’re into fitness, health or just for general wellbeing. You can get probiotics from yogurt but the issue with this is that you’re also getting all of the sugar that does in the yogurt and it would take quite a few of those little yogurt cups to give you the number of probiotics that you’d need in the run of a day.
Weight and fat loss
This is a huge appeal for a lot of people but not common knowledge. One would immediately think of fat burners to lose weight and body fat, but studies have shown that probiotics that contain Lactobacillus fermentum or Lactobacillus amylovorus can lower body fat 3-4% in 6 weeks.
3-4% may seem like a small number but in terms of body fat that is a huge difference. These studies don’t mention taking probiotics in addition to a workout routine or dietary change, so it is possible to lose weight and body fat by introducing probiotics alone into your day.
How to make probiotics work for you
Now, above I did say that the studies didn’t state having to couple probiotics with diet and exercise, but I’d strongly recommend it. If you think about it, you have probiotics working for your digestive tract now, so even changing your diet slightly (if you’re not already eating semi-healthy) can only speed up any good doing your body is going to go through. Now imagine going the gym or working out at home for 30 minutes 3 days a week. Your body is already trashing the bad bacteria in your gut to make way for new healthy bacteria. If someone can lose 3-4% body fat in 6 weeks without any additional aid, think of what you can do with a little extra effort.
